I've not been on this list long but I've seen several messages like the one
I quoted above. Is there a reason that the NPS would be removing the
boxes? I would think that letterboxers would be the kind of people they
want in the park. If boxes in are in discreet locations then it seems that
they aren't hurting anyone. So why remove them?

Maybe it's time to form a organized plan to approach the NPS on this matter.
